Trekking
A wonderful trekking challenge in deepest Africa along and up extinct volcanoes, passing nature, millions of years old. As you trek in this vast Savannah expanse at an altitude of over 2000 metres, come face to face with a multitude of wild animals; zebras, gazelles, giraffes, birds. A challenging experience of physical excursion and breathtaking wildlife.
Day 1
Arrive in the morning at Nairobi Airport. Transfer via Nakuru road to the Rift Valley to Fisherman’s camp on Lake Naivasha (2 hours). After lunch warm up with a walk around the lake (3 hours). 0/N at Fisherman’s camp.
Day 2
Trek 3 km. To Hell’s Gate National Park. Inside the park, walk another 23 km. Through typical African Savanna and Volcanic terrain. We trek at an altitude of 2000 metres above sea level in a mainly flat region.
Day 3
We begin the day with a 3.5 km. Walk to Hell’s Gate Gorge, and then enter into a steep canyon with fast running water, geysers and wild vegetation. Lunch is at Masai Cultural Center where it will be possible to taste the local dish of goat’s meat. After lunch we continue through the rocky gorge and plenty of wild bushes before heading back to Ol Dubai camp.
Day 4
Our objective today is Longonot National Park passing through Kedong Ranch. We will be mainly trekking through savanna with flat to hilly terrain at an altitude of over 2000 metres above sea level. The vast expanses around us are indeed very impressive and should give everyone the feeling of being in outback, with little of our “modern life” to distract us. O/N in Longonot National Park. Total trekking is 18 Km
Day 5
A difficult trek ahead as we make our way up the extinct volcano, Mt. Longonot. We climb some 550 metres from 2220 metres above sea level to 2770 metres. As we ascend to the rim. of the crater we will undoubtedly pass herds of zebras, giraffes, gazelles and other ‘wild animals. We hike along the jagged edge and peer into the volcano. From the summit there are fantastic views of the Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha. Having experienced these wonderful sights we descend down to the end of the park for a short 1 hour transfer to Malewa River camp for a well earned rest after a grueling 7 hour trek.
Day 6
We are now in the middle of Africa at its natural best sharing the area with multitudes of flowers, trees and wildlife. We start our trek by crossing the shallow Malewa river Gorge with its thick African bush and extraordinary sounds of animal life all around us. After about an hour we reach our last crater pool before returning back to our 0/N accommodation. Total of 12 km. Trekking.
Day 7
Another tough day as we climb Mt. Malewa ascending from 2200 metres above sea level to 2700 metres. From its summit a stunning views of Mt Longonot, Lake Naivasha and the northern Rift Valley. We return via the bridge over the river Malewa for our 3 hour transfer to our nights’ accommodation and celebratory dinner in Nairobi. Total 17 Km.
